WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC

Chiropractic was discovered in September of 1895 by Daniel David Palmer in Davenport, Iowa when he performed the first chiropractic adjustment on a hearing impaired janitor by the name of Harvey Lillard. Lillard claimed he had begun losing his hearing after sustaining a neck/upper back injury in which he heard a loud pop. After D.D. Palmer adjusted Mr. Lillard his hearing returned. Hearing loss is not a typical symptom of a misaligned  spine but it was definitely the first in chiropractic history.

The philosophy of chiropractic is based on the concept of the "safety pin cycle" This is the idea that the brain controls every muscle, tissue, and cell in the body. When the safety pin is closed the communication is continuous, but when it's open there is an interference and the communication lacks. This interference is a misalignment or a fixation in the spinal column which, if left long enough will degenerate the joint and eventually create disease of the organ at the end of the nerve being affected.

ABOUT THE GONSTEAD TECHNIQUE

This technique was developed by Dr. Clarence Gonstead who was not only a Doctor of Chiropractic but an engineer.

Dr. Gonstead created a specific bio-mechanical technique to not only alleviate the pain but to find the root of the problem. His technique consisted of 5 steps:

Visualization- The doctor will look for any skin changes, movement patterns and  posture.

Instrumentation- The doctor will use a heat sensing instrument to look for any heat differences in the spine which will indicate inflammation or nerve pressure.

Static Palpation-The doctor feels (palpates) the back to look for any swelling, tenderness, skin or muscle changes.

Motion Palpation- The doctor will move the patient in various directions to find restriction of the spinal segments.

X-ray analysis-  Getting an honest look at the spine is important to insure the best care possible. The doctor will require x-rays for each patient. To see is to know, to not see is to guess. We prefer not to guess when it comes to your health.

NASAL SPECIFIC TECHNIQUE

This technique has been used in the Pacific Northwest for many decades.  It is a powerful adjustment that  involves a blood pressure bulb and finger cots which are inserted into the sinus cavities. When the finger cot is inserted into the sinus cavity, it is inflated. The inflating of the “balloon” moves the cranial bones and breaks up fibrous tissues that have formed over time. Once the cranial bones have been moved and fibrous tissues have been broken the cranial bones are now able to move freely with respiration allowing for “uncorking” or proper flow of cerebral spinal fluid. The flow of cerebral spinal fluid is important to protect the brain and spinal cord from injury, remove toxins, and nourish the central nervous system. This adjustment may help to drain any mucus that is sitting in the sinus cavities, release any pressure in the face and head,  increase oxygen intake by allowing for better respiration, increase sense of smell, decreases instances of headaches, face pain, allergies and snoring. This may also decrease pain in other areas of the body. This  technique may be beneficial to patients that not only suffer from chronic sinus infections, allergies, face pain but also patients that have suffered any traumas to the head, face, or upper cervical spine. Results vary by patient.

WEBSTER TECHNIQUE

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated.

Sacral subluxations may contribute to difficult labor for the mother caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction and mal positioning of the baby. Correction of the sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia.

ABOUT US

Meet the Doctor

Ysel Ganda, D.C. was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area.  She studied kinesiology, pre physical therapy and graduated with her Bachelors of Science in 2013 from California State University, East Bay.
